Customer's request
This is an example of a fine comb blade processing requested by customer. The details of request are as below:
-Groove width W0.070mm, comb blade surface dimension 0.020mmx0.020mm and depth (height) h0.2mm.
-Select appropriate cemented carbide grade equivalent to the grade originally used.
In addition to the strict dimensions, processing of cemented carbide was required, resulting in the customer facing difficulties in finding a vendor as only a few manufacturers could handle this. They have contacted us given our abundant processing experiences and knowledge of cemented carbide.
Machining details
Based on the grades which the customer used previously, we proposed our equivalent grade EF01, and moved on to processing.
This example involved form grinding process, but since the required accuracy was very high such as groove width W0.070 mm, comb blade surface dimensions 0.020mmx0.020mm and depth (height) h0.2 mm, it was necessary to put the following points into account:
-For high-precision fine groove processing, it was necessary to select the optimum processing machine and grindstone.
-The grindstone was required to be formed into a shape to achieve the groove processing, and must maintain the accuracy to carry out the processing of 12,000 comb blades.
-The fine comb blade was easy to break because the comb blade surface dimension is 0.02mmx0.02mm.
For the processing machine, we selected the super-precision high-reciprocating forming grinding machine (Nagase Integrex SHS-20) used in-house for high-precision products.
In addition, in order to minimize the dimensional difference between the groove shape and the machining shape in the drawing, in advance, the machining shape was repeatedly checked, the grindstone was dressed, and the axis was adjusted, which gave optimization the grindstone shape and machining conditions. In addition, to avoid shape changes and broken comb blades, care was taken in setting machining conditions that took the machining stress into account, as well as in handling and cleaning after machining. As a result, we were able to manufacture products with a groove width of W0.062 to 0.069 mm, a comb blade surface dimensions of 0.021 to 0.029 mm, and a depth (height) of 0.2 mm as the customer requested.
Results of machining and service
In this case, due to extremely difficult machining, only a few manufacturers could handle this, and the customer had some difficulties in finding a vendor.
However, we were able to perform the processing as requested by the customer.
In addition to the quality of our products, we have been highly evaluated for our ability to respond in a short delivery time, and we are continuously receiving requests for processing cemented carbide.
