Customer's request

This is an example of ultra-high precision fine hole machining. The details of request are as below:
-To process a hole with diameter 0.8 ± 0.0005mm, roundness 0.001mm or less, and position diameter 0.003mm.

Since it was an ultra-high precision small hole machining that requires submicron accuracy, there were few vendors which could handle it.
Because of that, the customer contacted us.

Machining details

Based on the mechanical properties and product specifications requirement, we proposed the grade KD20, and moved on to processing.
This case involved small hole EDM machining and WEDM machining, however the request was to process high precision small hole at submicron accuracy. Due to the situation, it was necessary to pay attention to the following points.
-Because submicron machining accuracy is required, it was necessary to select special WE electric discharge machining conditions specialized for microfabrication.
-Because the product exceeded the measurement accuracy (± 1 μm) of our existing equipment, it was necessary to cross-check the inspection data with the customer.

Based on the machining data and machining know-how of similar shapes cultivated over many years, we repeated trial and error, selected special WE electric discharge machining conditions, and moved on to machining.
In addition, we carefully checked the measurement accuracy via verifying the inspection data with the customer.
By repeating the prototype processing, we were able to achieve a hole diameter of 0.7995 to 0.7997 mm, a roundness of 0.0004 to 0.0008 mm, and a position of 0.0004 to 0.0025 mm, which met the needs of our customer’s request.

Results of machining and service

This project was challenging as submicron processing accuracy was required, but we were able to manufacture a product that would satisfy our customers, using existing processing equipment and measuring instruments. Although they were a new customer, we have been highly evaluated for our ability to take on difficult projects that other vendors have refused.Because of that, we are continuously receiving requests for microfabrication of cemented carbide from the customer.
