Customer's request

This is an example of a customer's request to improve the accuracy of fine hole drilling. The details were as follows:
-To process hole with dimensions of φ0.07×0.8mm.
-To select material with high wear resistance.
Unable to find a vendor that could handle the difficult ultra-precision hole processing, the customer contacted us given our wide range knowledge of processing cemented carbides.

Machining details

Considering the customer's requirements, we proposed our EW10 grade, a material with high corrosion resistance, and moved on to processing. Processing a hole with diameter of 0.07 mm and depth of 0.8 mm is challenging, and the following points needed to be considered.
-There is a risk of a "drum-shape" dimension forming in the direction of the hole depth.
-The hole diameter is very small that the preparation of the smallest electrode diameter is required for machining.

Regarding the bulging in the direction of hole depth, we have minimized it by using our long-cultivated machining know-how.
In addition, using the smallest diameter electrode causes various problems such as bending and faster electrode wear. This problem has also been solved by our experienced machinists. After repeated trial processing, we were able to achieve a hole diameter of 0.069 to 0.075 mm and roundness of 0.001 to 0.002 mm, resulting in meeting the customer's requirements.

Results of machining and service

In this case, we achieved customer's challenging required hole dimensions of φ0.07×0.8mm through fine-hole processing. Our machining technology is highly evaluated, and we continue to receive requests for micro-machining of cemented carbide.
