Customer's request

This is an example of thin plate processing requested by a customer. The details of request are as below:
-Thickness of 0.02 mm or less.

In addition to the strict dimensions, processing of cemented carbide was required, resulting in the customer facing difficulties in finding a vendor as only a few manufacturers could handle this. They have contacted us given our abundant processing experiences and knowledge of cemented carbide.

Machining details

Based on the customer requests and product applications, we selected our non-magnetic cemented carbide KN20 as the optimal grade for the case. The processing in this case was surface grinding, however, since the thickness is only 0.02mm the required accuracy was very high. Because of that, it was necessary to put the following points into account.
-It was necessary to review the grinding conditions to prevent warpage since thin plate processing is prone to it.
-it was necessary to establish a fixing condition peculiar to the thin plate since it was difficult to fix the thin plate due to the stress during processing.

With our technology and accumulated data of similar shapes cultivated over many years, we repeated trial production and obtained the optimum grinding conditions, despite the difficulty to prevent warpage due to the high precision thin plate processing of 0.02 mm.
Usually a magnet is used to fix workpiece into position, but it could not be used for this case given the carbide grade was non-magnetic.
Therefore, we fixed the workpiece with a special jig. As a result, we were able to manufacture a product with a thickness of 0.02 mm as customer requested.

Results of machining and service

The customer in this case had previously had few relationships with processors specialising in the machining of cemented carbides and was very unsure where to go for help, but was very satisfied that we were able to achieve the customer's requirement of a thickness of 0.02 mm. We have been highly evaluated for our cemented carbide processing technology, and are continuously consulting on various high-precision processing ever since.
