Customer's request

This is an example of making a small hole machining from a customer. The details of request are as below:
-Diameter 0.10 × 5mm and diameter 0.13 × 10mm

Since the hole for each product is 5 mm and 10 mm long, processing is extremely difficult.
The customer could not find any vendors which could handle the processing.
They contacted us since we specializes in the machining of fine holes in cemented carbide.

Machining details

Based on the customer's request for cemented carbide material, we proposed grade G2, and moved on to the processing.
Advanced technology and knowledge are required in processing holes with the mentioned dimensions (diameter 0.10 x 5 mm and diameter 0.13 x 10 mm), so it was necessary to pay attention to the following points:
-During small hole electric discharge machining, even if the hole entrance diameter is at target dimension, the hole may swell like a drum toward the hole depth direction.
-Since the required specifications were severe, it was necessary to set the optimum conditions for small hole electric discharge machining.
Regarding swelling toward the hole depth direction, based on the processing know-how cultivated over many years, we performed processing, paying close attention to prevent swelling in the hole depth direction.
Since the shape inside the hole was important, we also inspected the cross-sectional shape in-house and confirmed that there were no problems.
In addition, based on the past processing data and know-how of similar shapes accumulated so far, we have set the conditions for all patterns such as electrode diameter and processing report. Among them, we selected the best conditions and moved on to processing.
By repeated prototyping, we were able to meet the customer's request with the following contents.

Hole diameter (both ends) 0.104 mm
(Center) diameter 0.186 mm
Roundness 0.002 to 0.005 mm

[diameter 0.13 x 10 mm]
Hole diameter (both ends) φ0.131 mm
(Center) φ0.195 mm
Roundness 0.002 to 0.005 mm

Results of machining and service

This case was one of the most difficult projects that we have dealt given the extremely long machining depth, but we were able to manufacture the product that meets the customer's request. Not only our processing technology, but also our response to customers have been highly evaluated, and we are continuously receiving requests for processing cemented carbide.
